Can't View CHM Files in IE7 - A FIX
If you are having problems viewing CHM files (like the new WCF documentation CHM files), you might be seeing a blank IE screen when you click on any of the subject headings contained ni the file. If this is the case, right-click on the CHM file and select Properties from the provided menu. You can then click on the Unblock button at the bottom. This will then allow the CHM file to be viewed using IE as it should be ......

New WCF Documentation for the JUNE CTP Is Out

The new documentation has arrived. That will make it easier. I have two of the leading WCF books that were written right before the June CTP and they seem to already be out of date, so it is good to have some current docs.

Installing a Clean Image on the Thinkpad T60
When I sent to install a clean image of Windows XP on my new Thinkpad T60, it wouldn't proceed as it couldn't find any hard drive to deploy the OS to. To get around this, you have to step into the BIOS by pressing the ThinkVantage blue button at the top of the keyboard. Once there, go into the CONFIG section and scroll down to SATA. From here, change the setting to Compatibility and then ESC out and end by saving the changes made. Reboot and you will then be able to install the OS ......

SQL Server Everywhere Has Arrived! Links for info and download
At TechEd 2006, I was quite impressed with the new SQL Server Everywhere. I am not sure why ‘Everywhere’, but I guess just because this program is so dang easy to install, that you will just start using it in all of your applications – therefore it will get installed ‘everywhere’. SQL Everywhere was formally called SQL Server Mobile and has been expanded to now run on the desktop. Rather excited about it myself as we are going to use it as a local store in our new smart ......

Why I Can't Use Vista Beta 2 Today
Dang, I really really wanted to run Windows Vista on my new Lenovo (formally IBM) Thinkpad T60. I installed it just fine and got all the drivers working, but I need three things in order for this to be my work laptop. One, I need Microsoft Outlook and that worked just fine. I need our work-based messaging program to work. It didn't at first, but you can run this program using the Program Compatibility Wizard and assign it to run in a Windows XP SP2 context. Then the last program I need is Nortel's ......

.NET Framework 3.0 - It's Not What People Think
On Somasegar's WebLog, there was a post about the name change from WinFx to the .NET Framework 3.0. There is also a clarifying post from Jason Zander's WebLog on the matter. This is an interesting move and something I am still trying to understand because as I start digging into what this really means, I don't think it is a great idea. So, what is the deal? WinFx has simply been renamed to the .NET Framework 3.0 ... nothing more and that is the problem. When I install the .NET Framework 3.0, I was ......

Windows Forms Interoperability Talk
I attended this talk about how to build Windows Forms 2005 apps that can later deal with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) components. Interesting, but the entire talk could have been covered in about 15 minutes. Recommended links from the talk include: Windows Forms Websitehttp://www.windowsfo... Windows Forms FAQhttp://www.windowsforms.... Windows Forms Interoperability Blog ......

BOSTON! Why is TechEd 2006 here?
I thought that Boston would be a cool city to have TechEd in, but alas, it is disappointing. The Convention Center is quite a bit out of the city if you are walking. Taxis are expensive and the city around here seems quite dead. Hotels are expensive and the traffic in the morning is crazy. It took the bus 50 minutes to get 8 miles from the hotel to the convention center. I've been to around 5 different TechEds and by far the best one I have been to was in Dallas. Dallas is a great city ......
