Tired and Pirates 2

Working on a project right now that's not going uber-smooth, but not ultra-disaster either...typicaly project stuff. I've been putting in some extra time though (read: last Saturday and Sunday, Monday night too). I was going to work a bit on it tonight with the impending deadline coming up, but figured that I'd sleep for a few hours and take advantage of how the brain is better first thing in the morning (that's what Brain Age tells me anyway).

I took a bit of time to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 last night though...very good movie, although be warned: the series is definately going the way of Star Wars. With Star Wars, you could watch the first one and never watch any of the other two to enjoy it. But once you saw Empire Strikes Back, you HAD to watch RotJ to learn Solo's fate and what would happen now that Luke knew Vader was his dad. Same thing here: Pirates 2 leaves too many things unanswered and you have to watch the last one to learn how it all ends. Which, again, isn't a bad thing. The early parts of the movie dragged though (the thing is 2.5 hours long), but once it picked up steam it was alright.

The creatures in the movie aren't really as forboding in this one. Probably because we got spoiled with the eye candy in the first one, and c'mon: when you beat down a bunch of undead pirates, what's a few more weird-fishy-sea-type-undead-live-monsters? I was a little disapointed with Davey Jones...I just couldn't figure out what his thing was...He isn't the menacing bad guy that the captain from the first movie was. And I swear his accent changed throughout the movie. Anyway, still go see it...a 3 outta 5 for sure.

K, off to bed before my morning-o-testing begins. w00t.

Pirates 2 definitely reminded me of Empire Strikes Back. You get plot twists, the darker storyline, and the cliffhanger. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit! 7/11/2006 7:49 PM | Scott Miller
