Geeks With Blogs
Dan K Blog Grocery Geek

I have asked a few people about this, and no one seemed to know.  I was going to blog-ask it and have been avoiding it for time reasons.  Thanks to Loren, now I have an answer.  Thanks a lot, I have an older laptop running XP Pro and a nice input tablet I am very comfortable using for Flash animation.  I have “written” notes in OneNote with it and was sorely missing the “ink” features.  I asked around and no one seemed to know if loading XP Tablet on a non-tablet laptop would kill it.  Looks like not, and I will re-load the older laptop with XP Tablet and post here later with the results, using a nice Wacom tablet.  Great idea for developing tablet pc applications on a non tablet.  Thanks Loren!

The biggest problem you will have is getting the HID compliant drivers for the Wacon tablet to work. Since Tablet PC hooks the mouse you will have basic inking capability. But it will not be sensing the pen as being a real pen, only another mouse. You can tell if it's working properly if you have SP2 installed (and you'll want the added pen capabilities) if you hover or click on a text box, say the address bar in Explorer you should see the icon for the tip show up. We've done this on 4 PC's so far and 2 work properly.

Hey thanks a lot for the info. I have been holding out on the SP2, feeling out the blogs and articles to see what it breaks. Since I'm doing it on a crap laptop, I'll give it a shot next week. Thanks again! I'll let you know how I make out!
