The season finale for BSG is this weekend.  It'll be run an extra three minutes (1:03), so those of you without TiVo, make sure you don't miss the end.  This is a series noted for their surprise endings and cliffhangers, and there will no doubt be one again.  I anticipate something with Kara Thrace/Starbuck.

From what I hear, next season will most likely be the final one for this series.  That's not very surprising.  They had hoped that this season would be their "breakout" year, and that they'd pick up a more mainstream following.  I don't believe that happened.  Of course, the content for this season could be to blame for that.  There's no doubt that this season has been far less entertaining than the previous two seasons and mini-series.  Part of the reason is how many "interpersonal relationship" episodes they've had, but that's not completely it.  There have always been those types of episodes, and yet the series has still ben far more enjoyable than this year.  What they've lost is the tension, though.  Since the fleet left New Caprica, you've never had any impression that the fleet as a whole, or even specific characters, were in much imminent danger.

Part I of the season finale was on last week, and is obviously an attempt to change all that.  The Cylons are still out there, chasing the "good guys", and they've brought an impressive amount of firepower with them this time.

Anyway, tune in Sunday for what will probably be one of the few enjoyable episodes of this season and be thankful that season 3 is finally over.

Catch some spoilers here.

"They had hoped that this season would be their "breakout" year"

Moving it to a 10p Sunday tineslot surely didn't help the cause

Yes, I always thought that was dumb myself.

I live in Seattle and am a member of the sci-fi museum. Last night sci-fi channel came and presented the season finale. Plus we got to do a Q&A with the Chief and Hilo..... (Both dudes are way cool)

Lets just say the finale rocks and there are some cool suprises and of course a cliff hanger ending (or 2)....

This show gets better and better.....

"This show gets better and better..."

The finale will have to be beyond awesome for that statement to be true. Season 3 has, in a word, sucked.

It's funny, actually. I remember before the season started being very nervous about the season because I wasn't sure exactly where they were going to go with the "New Caprica" stuff and how long they'd be there, and if it would get old and boring fast.

Looking back, the "New Caprica" episodes were by far the best of the season.

The music thing was sort of dumb, but it was all just a diversion. It will probably work out that those four (all of whom were on New Caprica) hear the music for some other reason than being Cylons. Maybe its from an earth space probe (from the 1960s?) What Isee as the real twist here is that Thrace is the Cylon. How else can she have survived and been to earth (with spirit guide not-Leoben no doubt)?

No, I believe the four were activated and knew it, much like how (allegedly) sleeper agents are activated in the 20th century. They're given directives and information under hypnosis, and given a keyword or song phrase that unlocks the information for them. I think the Cylons (or someone) played Along the Watchtower at a frequency only Cylons could hear, and it activated those 4 sleeper agents.

However, I'm going to stick with my original comment that the show does not in fact "get better and better". This was a good, but not great, finish to an awful season. And the finale was more like a season one episode that left you going "huh?" at the end, but still not as good as previous season (or half-season) finales.

Like the rest of the season, even the finale lacked tension. In the past, they'd end with a battle (or something) and leave us right in the middle of the battle when things looked their worst. Or at the end of the battle, when the battle didn't turn out nearly as we'd hoped (see both seasons 1 and 2). This time we're at the start of the battle, and have much to look forward to, but we haven't even made it to the cliff yet, so we're not nearly hanging over it.

I thought the season openers were fantasic up to and including the rescue. After that I completly agree with Chris that it has been a complete waste of air space. They recaptured me with the Kara disappearence andI thought the finale was brilliant. For this show to survive it will have to be an amazing season 4 start to finish, rather than the peaks and troughs of this season.

I think we should keep in mind that while some of us have found disappointment with the season, a bad episode of BSG is still better than almost any show on TV. I killed my cable before the start of the season and have been downloading every episode. It's the only show I'll go to those extremes for, followed very closely by "24". With 2 shows of this caliber, I find no desire for anything else. Now...9 months :(

Im Glad Its Over . This Season Was Crap , Boring And Not Enough Of The Cylones . It Was More Of A Soap opera Lovie Dovey Crap .I Liked The Symobolism But, Other Than That It was Just Draggin . Also This Last Episode Dragged A Bit Too, They Waited For Everything To Happen At The End And When They Found Out They Were Cylones , It Did Not Surprise Me One Bit . If Anything I was Like Whatever , All This At The End , And I Saw StarBuck Comming From Miles Away . PREDICTABLE!!!!

i think when kara came back with the new ship it might have been a refernce to the "angels" from the old bsg. remember it was the angel that gave starbuck the coordinates for earth. anyones opinions?
