Connected Systems Chilled Out Blog Hanging stuff together in a meaningful way with some fun added

Highlights

  • Vista gets more of it's bits! Vista now has more 3D experience + the sidebar is back
  • WPF  & WCF now looking mature - Microoft Max is a great GUI experience - www.Microsoft.com/MAX
  • LINQ - see here http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2005/sep05/09-13NETLanguage.mspx
  • Office 12  looks stunning plus has real features - check out storin Power Points slide by slide on WSS then composing a new presentation from those slides - also if the 'master' is changed so is the developed presentation.

Lowlight

  • During “Keynote" audiance advised they would have the chance to buy the iMate JASJAR (normall $1100) for $149. This meant some people bailed out to go and buy. The majority stayed and watched - of course. Only 1000 available so sold out while the majority watched the keynote. This really sucks. Microsoft should have had enough for all to buy.

Yes, it did come across as a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who chose to keep listening instead of skipping out to take advantage of the offer. It seems like extending the offer to those who missed out would generate a lot of developer goodwill, but I guess even Microsoft's marketing budget has its limits.

I didn't want to leave the session to guy buy, so I just pulled out my Pocket PC phone and ordered over GPRS. Didn't miss a second of the session, and was still able to make the order. Several people around me did the same thing. Ironic that the only way to get a new Pocket PC phone (without leaving the session) was to use a Pocket PC phone.

I really wanted the device and was ready to get up and leave the when the Microsoft VP said something like "don't leave the session now, you'll have a chance to order the device after the key notes are over".

What does he care? He can spend $1000 on the device, it's like small change to him.

What really pisses me off is that I am looking for such a gadget - I specifically want to write some apps using the latest PDC bits targetting mobile devices.

Instead, I see some PDC folks already selling them on eBay for $1,100 and more....

Maybe Microsoft could give the offer to the people who commented on this page?

yeah i saw a guy today who was talking about that he didnt even like it (he got it for 149) and was planning on selling it on ebay... i think a lot of people who had the desency to sit out the keynote would have been far more REAL interested people and where planning on using it and or developing for it.. it really dissappoints me that they are rewarding the people who ran out of the keynote.. they should have been rewarding the people who watched the whole keynote.. even Jim said not to rush out... this is really a bad move of microsoft.. and i don;t think money is really the issue here...
