I have been working with Indigo since the end of last year, but I have not played with Avalon yet. Since I already have WinFX Feb CTP installed on my machine, I decided to give Avalon a try (I know I am late). I created a new project, and tried to compile it. To my surprise (maybe not), it does not compile. I received the following error:

Error 1 The "Microsoft.Build.Tasks.Windows.GetWinFXPath" task could not be loaded from the assembly PresentationBuildTasks, Version=3.0.51116.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35. Could not load file or assembly 'PresentationBuildTasks, Version=3.0.51116.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Confirm that the declaration is correct, and that the assembly and all its dependencies are available.

Naturally, I googled the error to see if others are having the same problem. To my surprise, google returned exactly one entry. Either no one is having this problem, or no one is using Feb CTP with Avalon.

Basically the solution is to uninstall Feb CTP, delete C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies (You can rename if you want) then reinstall Feb CTP. I wonder if the same problem exists for the WinFX May CTP.

Yeah... when I encountered the problem... I had to talk to one of the billion Program Managers on WinFX to get an answer...

At least more people will know about it...
