The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave

Optus confirms iPhone plans
So here in Australia we might be one of the first countries to have the iPhone unlocked and provided by two Carriers? (Optus and Vodafone) BUT - only if you are prepared to wait until the end of the year? Please..... anyone I know who is seriously interested in the phone has already arranged one from elsewhere. BTW, a colleague recently found out how delicate the glass screen is, OUCH!! So I would have provided more of a quote for this story but it appears that has come up with a ......

A lengthy plea to Apple, Microsoft and Nokia on how to improve their SmartPhones and PDA's from Stephen Fry?
I have long been a fan of Stephen Fry's work even before our stint living in London and his ability to set forth on a diatribe on any number of topics is almost unsurpassed. Here in what I gather is only his second blog post he describes what he considers the faults of all manner of SmartPhones, and I do mean ALL as he is a self-confessed addict for PDA's and SmartPhones Stephen Fry Blessays, blogs and blisquisitions Let Fame » Device and Desires All the big guns want an iPhone killer. Even I, mad ......

Sick of carrying two mobile phones? how about 16 SIMS on the one card?
My mate Angus is one of these poor IT chaps who's been dragging around two mobile phones for some while now, one for Work and one Private, and he finally decided to do something about it. One option involved cutting the SIM in half, which he was somewhat reluctant to do, but now he has discovered an alternative method at Sick of carrying two mobile phones where he has just started blogging. Essentially someone has come out with a SIM card that can hold 64K memory and a USB 2.0 adaptor to allow you ......

You know how it is with us self confessed Geeks? Analyst's love the Touch Phone concept
Since around late 2003 I was getting fed up with Vodafone's service at the time in London and was looking to switch, I was also getting somewhat fed up with Nokia's offerings with it's monochrome screens while everyone else was offering colour screens. So I switched to Orange and the MPX 200 from Motorola, not only for it's colour screen, but also the fact that it was a Microsoft device that seamlessly (well sort of....) synched Outlook contacts etc.... Anyway, the point is that since switching to ......

Something very interesting came across the desk today that looks very neat for the SMB space HP challenges Dell in the SME market Colin Barker After Michael Dell on Monday launched his company's first storage system targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises, HP responded with a system of its own on Wednesday. Both systems are low-cost. The Dell system is priced at £5,497, while the HP BladeSystem c3000 (pictured, left) costs just under £5,000. But there was a difference between the ......

Orange C600 is now shipping in UK

I was on the phone to Orange UK this evening on another matter, and just asked again about the C600 only to be told "It is shipping, but we are currently out of Stock (!!??!!) best place to check is one of our Stores?"

Amazing, looks like it'll be another case of the Left hand not knowing what the Right is doing?

No-one can avoid the hype, even I'm taken in by the video - but Apple iPhone or Windows Mobile phone ? here's a comparison of the features
So from MSmobiles I found this very neat comparison of the features - I'm actually considering replacing the trusty Orange C600 that I have been using for some while now and everytime I catch the video of the interactive display of the iPhone I do think it looks great, but..... I have to remind myself that Mobiles (even more that Laptops) are a very tactile choice and before you make the commitment you should definately have the chance to pick one up and touch and play with it - jump in too quickly ......

TomTom 5 is now updated to 5.2 for Windows Mobile 5 - get your Download Now!
Nice little note at MSMobiles that TomTom 5 has now been updated. It's not too straight forward in that you must remove the card and update it from a Reader somewhere - but at least they have tried to be very explicit about the Fact that this WIL NOT WORK from ActiveSync, etc..... I've just got a secondary 256Mb MiniSD cardyesterday so now I can roll back the WM5 to 2003SE, back this up to the new miniSD, roll forward again to the WM5 (but now having a secure back up plan....;-) and then reformat ......
