The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave
Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.

Interesting to note, however given that my Home ADSL has a 20Gb limit per month - I'll pass for now......  ;-))  But it could be very useful - and it is good to see companies providing this sort of Demo

Citrix Offers PS 4.5 Platinum Edition Evaluation VHD

Category:Server Based Computing     Posted By Michel Roth     On Saturday 23 June 2007

One of Thincomputing.net's readers, Cesar Garcia, pointed out that Citrix has recently made available a preconfigured evaluation edition of Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 Platinum Edition. This preconfigured evaluation edition is a Microsoft Virtual Disk file (.VHD). It comprises of a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine with Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 Platinum Edition installed onto it. Citrix calls it the Presentation Server 4.5 Platinum Edition Evaluation Virtual Appliance or EVA.

You do of course need the software to "use" the downloaded VHD. Both Virtual Server 2005 R2 as well as Virtual PC 2007 are downloadable free of charge. If you are a VMware guy only, you could download VMware Convertor and convert the VHD to the VMware virtual disk equivalent, VMDK. You could then use it in any of the VMware products ranging from VMware Player to ESX 3.0. This should work in theory. Please note that I have not tried this myself so I don't know for a fact if that would work.

This way you can easily start to evaluate Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 or show it to your customers perhaps. Please don't be to impulsive and tell your customer: "Don't worry, I'll just download this cool new eval I just heard about and I'll show it to you in 10 minutes". The download is 700MB...... fourteen times. Well almost. The download is a whopping 9500 MB. Almost 10 gigs! But as soon as you have that, you should be up and running in under 10 minutes according to Citrix.

If you have a MyCitrix account (you can sign up for it for free here) you can download the Presentation Server 4.5 Platinum Edition EVA here. Posted on Monday, June 25, 2007 2:07 PM Citrix , Real Cool Stuff | Back to top
