Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.
So a few people I have spoken to have asked me recently why the switch to Neoware after Citrix?
Well, let's just say that the decision to leave Citrix wasn't made by me....
 
So that leaves...  why Neoware?
Well, when I weighed up all the positives that I uncovered during my research in to them I was quite impressed with what they have managed to accomplish in the last 5 - 7 years, as well as what they are doing now to grow the business.
 
Some highlights of these details are:
  • 63% CAGR over the last 5 years
  • Revenue from USD$10Mpa 5 years ago to USD$110Mpa last year
  • USD$120M in cash and assets - no debt
  • Growth through acquisitions
  • Strategic Partnerships with Microsoft, Citrix, VMware and IBM-Lenovo
  • New CEO appointed - Klaus (ex-CEO for SAP North America)
  • There appears to be a real shake up at the top management to move the Company up to the next tier (500m plus?)
  • Focus on Software products - in particular the Neoware Image Manager product that Streams OS's to PC's and Thin Clients
  • Commitment to all of the various Virtual Desktop plays like Propero, VDI, DDI, etc. 
On top of this there is the IDC report on Thin Client growth in the Asia Pacific region, and the fact that Neoware has somehow missed the APAC region all together until just recently and they realise that they have probably been relying on Lenovo/IBM too much without local support and they are now committed to growing the business from the Sydney base.
 
After attending the latest Citrix Roadshow in Melbourne and Sydney I was struck by the lack of detail available at the Wyse booth and yet they were the headline Sponsors, they were giving away a 42" Plasma TV as a prize and sponsoring the Drinks at the end of the day with all the waiters wearing black Wyse T-Shirts....  All of which made me conclude that Wyse is more of a Marketing company at the moment than anything else.
 
Indeed, when we chat to customers that is the one overriding comment we hear about Wyse down here - they are complacent. They are resting on their laurels and yet somehow still managing to do AUS$12m pa here in Australia (as far as I know). This is what also adds to my belief that this is the right place to be at the right time.
 
Looking forward, Neoware is set to launch a much revamped web site shortly, and I'm sure they are going to continue with more strategic acquisitions along the way to add to the Product Line up.
 
All in all it sounds very promising, I'll let you know how things progress?
