This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave

Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.

I don't mean that to sound like I'm rubbing it in - just explaining why I'm not doing too many posts at the moment.

I'm having a great time down south at the moment enjoying visiting the wineries around Margaret River region and will be back in Perth next week.

Perth is currently in the grip of a real mining boom, with the record prices of Minerals and other Commodities pushing this particular State in to a near frenzy.

I was considering looking at some property investment - and now I'm discovering that Vacancy Rates amongst residential properties is now down to less than 1.6% - people are offering another 10 - 20 dollars a week over and above what has been advertised to ensure they are on the top of the pile. Trades Assistants (ie. Apprentices) can head up North to the mines and be getting something like $1,000 a week.

What's worth noting is that with Gold at a record USD$600 plus we are seeing a real flight to base metals rather than the typical USD? I think the USD might now be lucky to be considered in the top ten Investments when things look unsure, rather than the top dog?

I believe the world is a much different place than the last time we saw Gold at this price, back in 1980 we still had the Berlin Wall, Russia was still a genuine Super Power, they'd just invaded Afghanistan, Russia and the Baltic States (remember when they used to do what Russia told them?) had just boycotted the LA Olympics, etc....

On top of this we are now seeing the genuine emergence of China as it starts developing a serious consumtion and hungey for upmarket goods, Cigerettes, Alchohol, Cars, etc and as such it is really helping push the commodites and energy prices.

More later.....
