This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave
Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.

Now I do know that I have posted in the past about whether or not Citrix's monopoly might be a bubble waiting to burst - but I heard a rumor (and I will stress this is just a rumor!!) that one of the Govt. entities involved in the current NHS project that is supposedly locked in to a Citrix rollout were considering Ericom as an alternative??

At the 11th hour it appears that Citrix got wind of this and then did something of a climbdown on the price of their suite? Admitedly this sounds like it might have been in the order of some thousands of users, so it would appear that this brought a very sharp focus to Citrix's mind?

So are Citrix prepared to come down from the Ivory Tower and start engaging with the masses? Maybe, then again maybe not, read on....

Interestingly enough I also had a chat with someone who works in a large FTSE 100 company here who has some ongoing issues with a large, multiple Farm Citrix install - when you start trying to get all the vendors invloved a high level MS is one of the first to promise Experts (from Seatle? no TS guys in UK or Europe?) and is Citrix showing the same willingness to get involved at this level?  They're not even close......

*** NOTE ***  Treat all of this as unbsubstantiated rumor!!

I've never had problems getting significant price concessions from our resellers based on price reductions passed to them from Citrix. On a mid-sided farm (15 servers) with 400+/- seats, we got a very nice discount in excess of 50% on XPe. You do have to work at it though and it always helps vendors to know that you have alternatives.
