The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave

Reminder to self - sort out Citrix Watcher on Support site!!

Now for some reason I'm not getting these updates emailed to me, so I really should sort out the watcher from the site. But in the meantime I've still been getting updated courtesy of Doug Brown at

So what's new?

ICA Sessions Do Not Go Into a Disconnected State
On occasion, ICA sessions do not assume a disconnected state when ICA KeepAlive is enabled. This occurs because ICA KeepAlive packets rely on TCP retransmission timeouts rather than a client response to detect when a client disconnects.
Apply Citrix Hotfix PSE400W2K3029.

Deletion of Print Drivers and Event Log Print Entries / Logging
This document describes how to remove printer drivers from the Citrix Management Console for Presentation Server.
Listed are possible reasons why you may want to remove printer drivers:

• By default, Windows native printer drivers are auto-installed during user logons

• Autocreation from the native set of printer drivers

• An administrator installed a third party printer driver
1. Disable auto-installation of printer drivers under the Management Console for Presentation Server 3.0 Printer Properties <there's more on the full article>
More Information
Citrix does not recommend updating printer drivers. Uninstalling the previous version of a printer driver and installing the new version is the recommended action.
To control printer warnings and / or information events within the Event Viewer, click the Advanced tab from the above step 3b and select the Event type as desired.

Configuring TCP KeepAlive Values to Improve WAN Links and ICA KeepAlives to Place ICA Session in a Disconnected State
After an ICA_TCP session is abnormally terminated, subsequent viewing of the ICA-TCP session in either Citrix Server Administration, mfadmin.exe, Terminal server Administration, tsadmin.exe, or the Citrix Management Console shows the connection in an ACTIVE not a DISCONNECTED state.

TCP/IP uses the initial packet retransmission timeout value at the moment when the session is initiated to determine what is "normal" for that connection. Because of this, it is better to have a consistently slow WAN connection and worse to have a connection that starts out fast and then becomes slow. Such an erosion of connection speed is common when connecting through an Internet Service Provider (ISP), particularly when the connection is opened in the morning and maintained into the work day.
<more on the full article>

In environments where the TCP/IP network has high latency, modifying the operation of the Windows TCP/IP stack can improve TCP-based ICA sessions. However, if the connection is not reliable and disconnects often, increasing the TCP/IP retransmission may result in negative effect as the connection will take longer to disconnect therefore slower to change its state from ACTIVE to DISCONNECT.
