The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave
Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.

So sometimes it pays to be persistent? What the problem turned out to be was actually in my Laptop (Toshiba Portégé R100) where there is something wrong with the drivers for the SD card reader.

You'll maybe have noticed my previous link to Willem's page for tools relating to ROM's for phones, etc and specifically the psdread and psdwrite to be able to manipulate the ROM's to and from the mini-SD card. When I finally realised there was actually a command line switch for PSDREAD -L that would enumerate the drives that it could see, I ran this and discovered that my built in SD Card Reader was not being seen.

Managed last night to get an external USB Card Reader and hey presto, tried the original Orange 4114 ROM and that didn't seem to go too well, so downloaded the SP3 ROM from a link on spv-developers and that took really well, copied to the 256 Card using psdread, then rebooted. Once I had a working phone I just reapplied the Orange UK 4114 Update. (01.39AM ;-))

Now....  when I get some time later today I'll get it back up to WM5 and update Tom Tom to 5.2
