This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave
Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc. - Synopsis
His most ambitious novel to date, ACCELERANDO is a multi-generational saga following a brilliant clan of 21st-century posthumans. The year is some time between 2010 and 2015. The recession has ended, but populations are ageing and the rate of tech change is accelerating dizzyingly. Manfred makes his living from spreading ideas around, putting people in touch with one another and leaving a spray of technologies in his wake. He lives at the cutting edge of intelligence amplification technology, but even Manfred can take on too much. And when his pet robot cat picks up some interesting information from the SETI data, his world - and the world of his descendants - is turned on its head.

My Thoughts after reading this

My interpretation of the genre CyberPunk is SF that is dealing in the near or very near future within the next 20 - 50 years, and boy does this deliver.

We start of with Manfred using glasses and some form of storage/cpu attached to his belt, and then we really do accelerate thru implants and on to Virtuality and uploaded consciousness.

What I find truly exciting about reading this sort of material is that I can look around now and see SmartPhones that have more processing power and memory than an Office Server of 5 years ago. What it also did for me was really start me thinking about where we are going with the input side of things. Here we are with all these lovely new mobile gadgets, and we're still using our thumbs on mini keyboards, when are we going to have some exciting new breakthrough with the input method?

The US Dept. of Defence has been experimenting with "Smart Dust" which is a very close analogy to the Nano Processors he refers to. And having said that, there were some mentions about this Smart Dust or motes being able to allow your typing to be done virtually, I wonder what happened to all of that?

For any one in the IT Industry that wants to have a gaze in to the Future and see what it holds, read this book, it'll really start you thinking
