I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. Thin Clients, VDI and Linux integration from the front lines.... Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.

I was checking on the latest news regarding the C500 handset and Windows Mobile 5 at and also came across another interesting site for similar news at

So first of all - start that download ;-))

Try this for the new ROM Upgrade with Media Player 10 and Compatibility with THB car kit (whatever that means??), I'm always ready to be a guinea pig - but not tonight, I'll give this a bash tomorrow.

Now the other gossip...
Microsoft eats its own dog food - and offers Windows Mobile phones and support to 60,000 employees The full podcast of this Session by Jason Langridge is available at

And news of Microsoft Global Contact Access being released for Windows Mobile (both Smartphone and Pocket PC) - How neat is that?
But what's really interesting from my point of view is that this can be downloaded and run NOW on the current devices. Interestingly enough they also state how it should be installed around ISA 2004, and with what a couple of chaps at our office have been investigating on behalf of MS you start to form the opinion that *Exchange SP2/Mobile 5.0* is going to be wanting a *third component* in this to satisfy Enterprise Security and it's going to be *ISA 2004*? Download and Full Instructions at:

This installs fine, and tells me it's
Power Toys for Microsoft Global Contact Access for Windows Mobile for:
Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone working with Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server 2003
(Quite a mouthful? ;-)
This the appears to give me a number of new menu items on "page 3" of the Menu:
Find Contact
New Mail
New Meeting
As of now it's not working, with "Unable to connect to Email Server", so I also tried connecting to the OMA and then trying again, but no luck there either. What appears quite cute is that you can add a number of contacts that you want to bring together for a meeting, and then it will search through the exchange server and come back with the list of available dates and times that all are free.

And to top it off there's some more releases at the MSMobiles Forum about a voice recording app. Given how cheap memory is, you could always use your phone to take dictation?

There's also some heads up on a Bluetooth Keyboard

I have problems installing the C500 Rom upgrade. When I click on the exe a message appears saying the file is corrupt. Has anyone else seen this?
