SharePoint, MOSS? and all the other questions
Hi Guys, I created a few Feedburner Urls to the feeds on my blog. SharePoint Content only – http://feeds.feedburner.com... All blog content – http://feeds.feedburner.com... Currently they point to this blog so you might have to still tolerate the ads (I am looking into what I can do about that). but for starters they are FeeBurner Urls. SharePoint Content only – http://feeds.feedburner.com... All blog content – http://feeds.feedburner.com... ......
I have a little gripe with WSS v3 Beta where the New List page doesnt provide an indication about the type of list you are creating except from the ListTemplateId in the url. So for reference (primarily my own) here is a mapping 101 - Document Library 104 - Announcements 103 - Links 100 - Custom List 115 - Form Library 105 - Contacts 106 - Calendars 120 - Custom List in DataSheet View 119 - Wiki Page Library 108 - Discussion Boards 107 - Tasks 109 - Picture Library 150 - Project Tasks 1100 -Issue ......
I was trying to setup WSS v3 on a VPC today. The setup went fine, but then the configuration (I mean SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration) failed about 4 times at the “Registering SharePoint Servces” i.e. 5/10 stage before it finally continued. I really dont get it. The exception in the log says this 05/27/2006 17:16:52 10 ERR Exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPExce... ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlEx... Cannot open database "WSS_Search_HEX" requested by the login. ......
WMP may not equal Windows Media Player in future. Microsoft have apparenlty announced a compressed image format known and Windows Media Photo (WMP) which provides a 20:1 compression (JPEG provies a 6:1) Where I see this being of much use is in camera phones or other devices where taking pictures isnt its main purpose. Will it affect digital cameras? I dont think it would (atleast not in the serious level). There is a reason why Raw is chosen as opposed to JPEG ......
A colleauge of mine was trying to setup WSS v3 Beta 2 today and was shown this message Service Pack2 is forced if you need to upgrade. Nice! So I am guessing that the upgrade path for customers who have not yet applied Service Pack 2 would be to apply SP2 first and then upgrade (i.e. 2 steps) I just cant imagine why there isnt a direct upgrade scenario. Please educate me if you know better. ......

Rob from topofthepods.com in one the top ten lists mentioned this tool. Its pretty cool, it goes through a list of mp3 and ogg files that you can specify, fingerprints them, checks up the fingerprint against data it has on its server, provides you with the option of updating your id3 tags with the data on the server. Its pretty good/interesting. Check it out ......
I think the SharePoint show is a really great idea. Its only at episode 3 so far and I am loving it. So far most of the material we’ve been seeing about SharePoint that comes from outside Microsoft is by way of blogs and articles these have mainly been literary pieces, i.e. most of them lack personality and voice (I mean most of them are text). The SharePoint show on the other hands adds that human touch which is quite awesome. Kudos to Gene for comming up with this. As someone who works with ......
Adobe has a new product on the horizon called Lightroom, although a Windows version of the beta is not available you can sign up for it.

Mart already blogged about this, so go check it out. I might as well add that if you are are a vendor that delivers solutions on the office platform you might be missing out if you dont check it out. Any one in paticular you should take a look at? No, check them all out :) but this might be a good starter Office 2007 WSS Collaboration ......
Ok so I downloaded, installed, and tried Windows Media Player 11. There is a lot I like about it, the new minimalisting UI is very neat. I really dig it. I love how stuff are organized in the library. They’ve even fixed a few of my earlier gripes (but only a few) The player in its smallest size is still tooo big to tuck anywhere on your screen while you are working (i.e. as default without hunting down for a tini mini skin) Customizable keyboard shortcuts are still missing. Currently as in ......
There have been a few Skype Phones out there. like NetGear DU@LPhone Linksys More from Skype But here is a do it yourself plan ......
Yeah, to say “I’ve been out of it” is a major understatement, and I blame work for it, well dont we all. But without me knowing it, looks like Windows Media Player 11 sneaked out. As I would have previously mentioned I am a bit of a fussy PC user, always wishing things were more optimal, so stay tuned for my critical review (atleast I hope there will be one). So if you want it, go get it here ......
Did that title grab your attention? IT should because you might want to know about this. http://www.consumerist.com/... Un-fricking believable. Its been digged a lot and perhaps needs more publicity ......
Want to get yourself the new shiny Yahoo Mail beta interface

Heres how.
Google has provided a toolkit that can compile Java to Ajax producing browser compliant HTML and JavaScript.
The toolkit also provides the ability to debug Ajax, an RPC infrastructure, and some more cool bells and whistles.
This some cool tehc from IO2Technology

Its pretty cool, 30" display that floats in mid air and which has touch screen capabilities.
The device is made such that in can inconspicous.
A lot of folks had digged this.

The site claims that the concept is to heat the glass so as to toast the bread. With the current design doesnt that mean that your hand could get burnt if you were to accidently touch the glass.
