Lately, I have been a little down in the dumps.  At work I am constantly behind because of all the support, mentoring, meetings, and of course the occasional time for actual development.  Don't get me wrong here, I love my job.  However, certain events have occurred recently that were unexpected.  For the last few weeks I have been dwelling on those events finding it hard to stay motivated, as well as finding it hard to wake up and get to work.  Last weekend, I went to my mother in laws church where her pastor was speaking on The Last LectureThe Last Lecture is a book and a speech by Randy Pausch.  In this speech Randy talks about dreaming.  This happened to be the topic the pastor was speaking on.  It hit me like a stack of bricks.  I never went to college, got and undergraduate degree, and a master's degree to dream of being middle management.  No, my dreams were much larger than that.  What I realized out of this whole thing that I had forgot about my dreams.  Instead I got caught up in dwelling on the downside of events.  Lesson learned.  Since that day I have been working on achieving my dreams, and not dwelling on events out of my control.  If you get a chance you should buy The Last Lecture, and like myself become enlightened and reminded to dream!

I always feel behind. I think it's because I take on too much in pursuit of my goals/dreams. I've learned not to let it get me down. Although I'm never as far long as I'd like to be, I can look back and see how much progress I've actually made.

Good luck pursuing your dreams, Jason.
