Mazes and Monsters *

Yes the game contest ends tomorrow at midnight. As previously posted,  I had a few more agenda items to complete. I reproduce the list with a cool strike through effect to show what has been done.
  1. Add a player, navigate the maze from start to end

  2. Add monsters to avoid (Think pack man)

  3. Add health and die after too many collisions with the monsters.

  4. Add bitmap graphics to the maze

  5. Make the maze 3d

  6. Improve AI for monsters

I added a player - See the pretty blue square?

Ditto for the beautifully rendered red square enemies (they must be Russians)

I even added power ups - see the soylant green squares?

I also got around to adding Lives and Levels. Which wasn't on the list.

I am not sure it is nearly as fun as I would like it to be. I did enjoy the work I was able to do on it. I have had to play test on my own. My (5 year-old) son has been out of town at his Nana's house and won't be back till tomorrow. I really wanted the game to be playable by him. And if he doesn't like the game maybe he will like the swing set I built for him.

Yes, I spent last weekend plus a few week nights finishing  this custom "Pirate" playhouse\swing set.  I have a huge pirate flag to stick on top. 40 sq feet of play deck, 10 feet of custom engineered Monkey Bars, Climbing Ladder, and swings. So now you can see why my game doesn't have all those fancy graphics like the other guys. ;)

If I were Jeff Atwood over at Coding Horror I could tell you all about how coding is like building a play set. You would be  entertained and your thoughts would be provoked  by the amazing revelations I would expound upon by juxtaposing these two seemingly diverse endeavors; but, I am not. So I won't. But I could.  I will leave it Jeff, if you haven't checked his blog please do I always find it an enjoyable experience.

Lunch is over, now back to work.

* Ok, obscure reference. Who remembers this 80's, scare the bible thumping folks, movie about the 'evils' of AD&D?

Sadly yes I do remember it. Isn't that the one with Tom Hanks?
